40º West Pitches Airline Training Software That Feeds Flight Data Back Into Simulator Scenarios

40º West chief executive Borja Diaz Capelli describes a training management system built around how each airline actually trains, with about a month of process review before the platform is configured. After nearly four years of development, the system covers training coordination, assessments, competency tracking, lesson planning, instructor workflows, simulator profiles, documentation and reporting, and connects to an operator's existing systems. At Air Europa, a year-long implementation had to integrate with a system dating from the 1990s, and the company says it cut manual work and paperwork while improving data integrity. Diaz Capelli gave examples of operational data shaping simulator content: 737 brake-application data and 787 climb-performance data were fed into training, and a rising unstable-approach trend could drive a dedicated scenario, with later data used to check whether it helped. On CBTA and EBT, he cautions that adoption demands instructor development because the interpretation of assessments varies with experience, and sees instructor standardisation as the way to balance personalised training with consistent standards. The firm uses AI to turn instructors' debrief comments into KPIs and to adapt knowledge tests, but he stresses that instructors rather than AI must decide what patterns mean. He plans to present the Air Europa case at EATS in Cascais in early November.

The Spanish-linked vendor's CEO says its training management system is tailored to each airline's own processes and was rolled out at Air Europa over a year. He also warns that CBTA adoption hinges on standardising instructors' assessment judgement.
