SpiceJet Q400 Pilots Stop Flying Over Unpaid Wages, With ALPA India Backing Them
AeroCrew News reports, citing a PTI report based on sources, that roughly 40 SpiceJet pilots flying the airline's Q400 fleet have refused to fly until outstanding salaries are paid. ALPA India supported the move in an 9 October letter to members, saying it stands in solidarity with the pilots and pledging moral, logistical, professional and consultative support. The union framed the refusal as defending pilots' rights, dignity and safety standards, and cited reports that unpaid vendors were declining to provide essential aircraft services. It said the Q400 pilots had been under considerable stress from the carrier's financial and operational problems. SpiceJet had not commented, and the amounts owed and duration of arrears were not immediately available. The article says salary payment problems reportedly date back to at least April. Citing planespotters.net, it says SpiceJet is operating 10 aircraft, including two Q400s, with 37 parked, so the refusal immediately affects the Q400 operation. India's aviation regulator, the DGCA, has been closely monitoring the airline.
